San Jose

The city of San Jose and surrounding areas is where most Costa Rican and expats (expiates) live. It has the most infrastructures, stable utilities, jobs, and amazing weather. Daytime temperatures are generally in the 70s and 80s years around. Nighttime dips into the 50s and 60s. Most homes have no need for air conditions or heat.

Accommodations
San Jose offers the widest variety of lodging options in Costa Rica. One can choose from traditional boutique hotels, to resorts, to apartment hotels (apart-hotel), to resorts, to vacation rentals. View our more detailed San Jose accommodations options.

Telecommuters and long-term vacations
For those planning on staying for a few weeks to 90 days look into apart-hotels or furnished rentals. It is recommended to wait until you get there to check them out in person. Quality levels vary greatly. Read finding furnished apartments for more first-hand insight.
